Illegal Immigrants & Anchor Babies

ILLEGAL = not legal. We have many legal immigrants in the US of various nationalities, Hispanic & Latino included. The fact that we have so many legal immigrants is proof that a path exists and the United States is willing and able to accept a certain level of migration.

Fred Thompson said the US should have “a high fence and a wide gate”. I agree. We need a secure border, and we need a path for legal, controlled migration. We need to ‘raise’ the fence. If we also need to widen the gate, we should take the steps to do so. That does not mean that, in the mean time, we continue to accept being overrun by those whose very first act within our borders is a blatant disregard for our laws.

Perhaps one way to stem the tide is a reexamination of birthright citizenship. Ending a system that encourages “anchor babies” may put a squeeze on the flow from the south.

Based on the intent of the framers of the Fourteenth Amendment, some believe that Congress could exercise its Section 5 powers to prevent the children of illegal aliens from automatically becoming citizens of the United States.

The Fourteenth Amendment has been cited as an excuse for many questionable laws. It has, by historical fiat, been used to ensure a constant market for immigration – legal and illegal.

Just a look-see, that’s all I’m askin’
