We’ll Have A Hot Time

Posted on | June 26, 2010 | 4 Comments

I tried yoga a while back, and found it…boring. I don’t really care to “lay still and concentrate on my breath”, that is just not my style. I like to get in, get sweaty and get out.

I have heard of “hot” yoga, though, and have always thought that sounded fun – you know I like it hot, and I love to break a sweat during a workout. Near the office is Bickram Yoga, and I have a gift certificate for 1 month of unlimited classes. So, my questions for my yoga loving friends:

  • Have you tried hot yoga and …is it awesome? Or…more of the same, just with the thermostat turned up?
  • Is there anything I should know about the classes?
  • Have you ever been to this particular location?
  • Is there anything to know about this studio?
  • Do any of you go there – so I may run into you?

The schedule of classes seems quite limited, and the time that would be ideal for me is blocked off for the Brophy football teams. Still, I’d like to find another workout – especially if it involves sweat & flexibility.

My wife used to go to a studio down in Tempe, and liked it quite a bit.She says your body moves better and your joints are looser, and it feels more like a workout that yoga. Part of that is there is also a high humidity level in the studio, she says something like 40%, which adds to the experience.

That’s what I am hoping for – I really prefer a workout that feels like a workout. The looser joints seems like a bonus I could certainly use, now that I have reach ‘a certain age’ LOL

You said she “used” to go – did she lose interest, move, or did her studies just take over her life? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Working F/T while trying to finish a PhD made any workout that wasn’t home-based untenable, so she switched to distance cycling exclusively. She’d like to start again but it’s a scheduling issue. Maybe once she finishes her dissertation…

If you want to ask her about it directly I can give you her email – let me know.

I saw from her blog that she looked like a very busy woman, I assumed it was probably her other pursuits that made her stop. Cycling is great, especially for time if you can work it into your commute. I used to bike to work several days a week; would like to start doing that again if I can get myself back in fighting shape ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the info. I am definitely going to give it a go, hopefully it’ll be a good addition to my repertoire.
