I have fallen quite in love with the handguns from Kahr Arms. Unfortunately they are ridiculously expensive (not as expensive as the Kimber guns that D finds himself partial to), though the reviews I’ve found certainly make the Kahr seem worth every penny.

I also get a warm, fuzzy feeling from the Ruger SR9c – which is a bit less pricey…but it sure seems to be tough to find. (Should’ve gotten one at the Gun Show, I guess) Might take me a while to get used to a gun with a safety again.

Next on the list, Bersa Thunder Ultra Compact Pro. Much cheaper, also much harder to find. (Should’ve gotten one at the Gun Show, I guess)

D seems fine carrying his Ruger for now, but my S&W is completely impractical for me to tote around.

What do you carry and why did you choose it?
UPDATE: After some shopping today, two new serious contenders on the list. Taurus PT111 and Springfield XD. I’d like to get my carry piece soon, but don’t want to rush it. More research…

Unfortunately it seems that the local gun ranges don’t have any of my candidates available for rent 🙁

I carry either a Kel-Tec P3AT or a Sccy CPX-1 as I can pocket-carry either of them and business casual doesn’t leave you a lot of options as to where you can conceal.

I’m not happy with the Sccy, though, so I’m looking around for an actual sidearm: Something I can carry inside the waistband all day long and shoot IDPA if I want. I thought I had settled on a the CZ P07, but it’s an inch and a half thick, a half inch thicker than a Glock or a 1911, which means I’m back to square zero, and considering a Springfield XD or an S+W.

I’d add the Taurus Slim to your list: It’s, well, slim, comfortable, points well, has a decent trigger and is quite reasonable.

I didn’t like the Ruger SR9 when I shot it. Just didn’t feel right. But my normal carry is my Ruger LCR. Fits great in my pocket holster or IWB. Reliable, simple, just works.

Last night we shot a few things in 380. The Ruger LCP… hated it. Just ridiculously too small. Maybe as that backup to a backup gun but that’s about it. Now, the Sig 232 with the Hogue grips… now that is some sweet sweet candy. Also the Beretta Cougar is a lot of fun to shoot, although it’s rather large to easily carry in normal clothes. The Walther PPS was nice to handle but we didn’t shoot it yet.

I don’t carry my Sig 2022 ever, it’s just too big, so that’s our house gun.

Kel-Tec PF9 most of the time, Kimber Ultra CDPII when I can wear a covering garment.

My boyfriend has been eyeballin’ that Kimber (I think the Crimson Trace grips put him over the edge) but I don’t think we’ll be investing in that just yet.

Kel-Tec still in the mix for a pocket gun

    Yay feedback!

ExKev – Curious as to what you are dissatisfied with re: Sccy (and what you might consider selling it for) D still has that on his list of potentials. I checked out the XD today and really liked it, so it is now in the running, right behind the Taurus PT111.

I checked out the Slim at the gun show after your previous recommendation, but found it a bit too slim…. The trigger guard was also too deep, or my hands just wrapped the grip too awkwardly, so it pressed uncomfortably on my middle finger. I think it would be too painful to shoot enough to feel comfortable.

Chad – I have heard many bad things re: the SR9, but it seems the SR9c is a whole different animal in terms of quality. The reviews have been in the 4-5 star range.

Haven’t decided yet whether to keep my S&W as a house gun, or sell it. Decisions, decisions

KB – D is still looking at the Kel-Tec. We saw a nice P-11 today at Lone Wolf but it was unbelievably tough for me to cycle the slide. Perhaps it was just that particular gun, but that seems like a pretty basic function I need to be able to accomplish in a hurry 😉

I bought the Sccy because at the time, it seemed to be a good balance of size, firepower and price. However, it’s been back to the shop three times in the 2 years I’ve owned it, and that reliability record just doesn’t instill much confidence in me. The gun doesn’t like more than 50 or so rounds thru it in any given shooting session: Halfway thru a training class last year, it locked the slide back and wouldn’t budge, no matter how hard I wailed on it.

Now, if I’m shooting 50 rounds in self-defense situation with it, I’ve done something horribly, horribly wrong, but I still prefer something more reliable with a proven track record. I’ll probably keep the Sccy because I can carry in a pants pocket and it’s a nice alternative to my P3AT, but I’ll get something else for day-in, day-out carry on my belt.

And congrats on the new acquisition!

I’ve been hearing those stories a lot about the Sccy. As you say, if you put 50 rounds through in a defensive situation, life has gotten very, very bad – but it would be hard to trust that it wouldn’t jam on a second shot when you really need it.

Still looking for my pocket gun – current front runner is the Taurus TCP. If I can find it.
