Merry F’ing Christmas

Posted on | December 22, 2005 | 5 Comments

I was taking advantage of the 24 hour WalMart (love that concept) to do a bit of Christmas shopping (so not in the mood for this). I finally made my way to the checkout behind a lady buying some goodies for her son – bike, stereo, MP3 player. Larger items that are generally security tagged. She was quite pleasant and friendly, there was no reason for what happened later.
After she was checked out and on her way, and the cashier was ringing up my purchases, I heard the alarm go off. Security tags, remember. So the cashier says, “I should have told her that would go off. Ah… F**k her”.
I called the manager this morning to let her know and she had about the same reaction as everyone else I’ve told, “WHAT!?!” I hope she will actually have a talk with the girl, but I am not so sure. When she said “We will review the tapes to make sure she really said that” I sort of figured she was hedging her bets (do they really have tapes of all the cashiers?) but who knows.
As a side note, at the end of the conversation I said, “You have a happy Holiday” and she said “Merry Christmas” Yep, at WalMart.

She’ll probably get fired for saying Merry Christmas, but not for her crappy customer service skills.

It was actually the manager who said Merry Christmas – the cashier didn’t even manage a Seasons Greetings.
