You’re A Dreamer

After posting this video for New Years, I decided to check out some of the singer’s other work. Nestled in amongst some truly angelic renditions of many of my favorite songs is this one. I was especially intrigued to see her as a youngun’; a much different look but still her recognizable voice.

Allow me to preface this next critique by saying that I am a huge, long-time Beatles fan (as those who know me can attest). When Lennon & McCartney were writing together, they took pop songwriting to a new level for the time. Individually, however, they each wrote a bunch of dreck.

Imagine is one of those dreckish bits. Perhaps not the most ridiculous, inane lyrics ever penned – but definitely in the running. Here, they have taken the tripe to a new level by having a chorus behind Sissel who answer her plaintive, “You may say I’m a dreamer” with the first accommodating, then accusatory, “You’re a dreamer, you’re a dreamer“.
I admit it, I laughed out loud.

Also genius is her finger waggle as she proclaims, “I’m not the only one” LOL

I searched You Tube in hopes of finding a version where someone had made the song cool in some way; swingin’ it or putting some edge on it or something. No luck. If you know of a decent version, post a link in the comments. I won’t hold my breath.

Not sure whether this is a plus or minus for you, but Sissel’s is the haunting voice you hear through most of the Titanic soundtrack

    Fortunately, I had seen/heard her doing some truly lovely songs first or I might be denying my ethnicity, too 😉
