WordPress Question

I set up my Word of Mouth Blog using WordPress and I am having a couple of issues…
The main one right now involves the ‘helpful’ way WP adds the <P> tags around EVERY BLOCK OF TEXT I TYPE. Argghhhh, so annoying.
Anyway, the main thing it is screwing up is a PHP function I would like to include in each post – which doesn’t work because of the darn <P> tags – and the fact that it changes my < & > signs into escaped characters.
Any ideas how to stop that feature?
