Fear & Loathing

One of my favorite blogs has been Kathy Sierra's Creating Passionate Users. Lots of good info for your business life.

Last week, I read this statement on the death threats that were causing her to retreat from the blogosphere - and I felt like I was missing something. [post has been moved here] It seemed like a reaction that was completely disproportionate to the actual situation.

I, of course, couldn't say that. After all, I have never found myself in that situation - and I wouldn't want to question the level of fear being suffered by another woman. I also didn't want to give the impression that I supported or approved of the things that were posted about her.

And yet, I did question her reaction. It seemed there were so many options to stop the threat that didn't involve giving the threateners exactly what they wanted; her site shuttered indefinitely, attention for themselves. Her follow up posts, and the subsequant publicity, have made me question the situation even more. It has made me wonder about her as a person, and her previous posts....perhaps an overreaction on my part.

Now I know that I am not the only one who wished for a slightly more measured response.

Have any of you been following this? What do you think?
