*Stiff* Sentence

One of the Conservative groups I belong to has a committee on the death penalty. Basically ensuring that where it is warranted, it is applied. They have asked me to join.

There is a group that works in opposition, trying to get sentencing reduced - they are on the county payroll. I spent some time researching those people and was not impressed, I would not want to have to work "with" them.

However, the reason for the post is that, when I mentioned this to a friend her response was, "What about David Gale?" I guess in her world moral issues are resolved by Kevin Spacey movies.

My answer:

**warning: spoiler coming***
ok, the ending to this movie was so obvious my deaf, blind dog could see it coming, but I digress
If you don't want to know how it ends, don't keep reading.

An "innocent" man sets himself up to look guilty beyond a shadow of doubt of a particularly brutal and heinous crime, then makes sure he has an incompetent defense, then waives his appeals. He is executed.

That isn't an indictment of the death penalty and it's possible failings, it is committing suicide at the governments expense.

But no, I don't think I will take on the extra work, though I may help behind the scenes. Not sure.
