Honesty

What kind of a guy is SG? Well, I didn't know who he picked for most of this weeks games, so he could have said he got 11 or 12 right.

But he didn't. He fessed up, even though it makes his current percentage lower than mine (look for that to change soon, BTW, last year I think he finished at around 70%)

Happy - 27

Spending the afternoon and evening with SG and his kids/nephew - three teenage boys in all - made me happy. They were funny and they were sweet.....and they were just regular teenage boys. I always like it when SG jr hangs out with us, and this was just magnified. They had me cracking up a lot.

We watched Jaws, which I had never seen (I know, I have been tragically deprived of several blockbuster movies in my life), and Mystery, Alaska, which I had seen and really like. Thought of you, Lori, since your boy is in it.

Another good day = happy

Happy - 25

Hmmmm....Playing hooky from work (I had permission) allowed me to enjoy:

Little girls in little tutus dancing their hearts out - and none of them bumping and grinding. Just cute, sweet dancing. But I forgot my camera.....

Sitting with a friend chatting over coffee - OK, I had a smoothie, but it was at a Coffee Plantation. That was nice.....

Floating around the pool, very nice. Though the water is getting to be a bit chillier than I like. Don't know how much more use I will get out of the pool this year.

Dinner with SG. Actually, dinner cooked by SG. He is a great cook and often treats me to yummy meals. The spaghetti sauce he made this past week is the best I've ever had (I usually don't enjoy red sauce but his is soooo good) and the chicken he made last night was unbelievable. Such a treat - I am so spoiled. Then just cuddling up and watching stupid TV shows.

A really nice day. That made me happy.

Happy - 20

SG surprised me today and made the trip to my side of town. After I took the dog to the vet to get some more bloodwork done, I jumped in the shower - and he was nearby waiting for me when I got out.

Then he took me to lunch. At Oregano's - - mmmmmmmmmmm! Chicken Caesar Salad, Meatball Sandwich...PizzOokie. Yummy, but I ate too much - of course.

Then we went shopping. We ended up wandering around MetroCenter for quite a while, but didn't really buy anything. He got some treats for the dogs and some presents for SG jr - nothing big.

Then he brought me home to pick up my car to head back over to his place.

Great day + great food + great company = HAPPY.

Knowing I can be late for work for no reason and I won't get fired makes me happy.

Knowing I have a reason for being late for work is even better.

Freshly made bed with freshly laundered sheets at home makes me happy.......

and then getting a better offer. That makes me even happier blush

SG has two kitties, one of whom is a bit neurotic. A lot neurotic....

She wants her water moving before she drinks it - which results in glasses and dishes being spilled frequently. Hopefully that is over with because she has a new appliance to satisfy her, SG bought her a drinking fountain.

Seeing her drink out of it is so silly, and makes me very happy.

yeah, that's me (and SG jr) in the mirror

Happy - 9

Getting the giggles in the middle of the night. Not being able to stop and laughing so hard there are tears rolling down my cheeks. Laughing even harder at SG laughing at me having the giggles.....

"Holy Toledo!"

Pigs And Cows

We have some amazing thunderstorms here, and they come out of nowhere. From blue sky to deluge in 6.2 seconds (or there abouts). I love them, always have - don't remember ever being afraid of thunder or lightning, just remember always wanting to watch it and sleep with the windows open.

Our storms are so cool Lori even picked it as her Happiness for today. I would normally agree with her, despite the fact that my garage, patio and workshop all flooded.

Unfortunately, SG's work can be adversely affected by the weather, and last night was the one night that it couldn't rain....but it did. Monday night, no problem, tonight, no problem - last night, BIG problem. So it made for a very unpleasant night for him, and possibly an expensive one. It might have been even worse if we hadn't gone out for ice cream and seen the storm, we were all comfy, cozy and unaware - and no one bothered to call him and tell him there was a problem. The forecasters had issued severe weather alerts in Northern and Eastern Arizona, but not here.

My plants may be happy but my yard is a mess again, and SG got clobbered. Not a good storm

Diversion

You know how, when you are upset/feeling bad/depressed/off balance, you will do stuff like prolific blog postings, dusting your baseboards, sorting your vitamins....basically anything to avoid dealing with what you are feeling? Or is it just me?

Anyway, I am running out of diversionary activities and I am not ready to face my problem. Suggestions?

UPDATE: I'm going to try an online poker tournament. They have one that costs nothing to get in and I could win up to $100. And I will be distracted...
Or not - that was quick. Knocked out on the first hand I played - 2 pair, aces and jacks. He had three of a kind. On the plus side, he got knocked out three hands later.

Incidentally, having been hit once again with comment spam for an online gaming site of which I most certainly don't approve, I have decided to list the Official Vox Online Gaming Destination as one that I do - Bodog. If you sign up, please enter referral number P1F1B13 (SG, I know you have a different referral number but I can't find it. If you send it to me or leave it in the comments I will put it up - I know you will get more benefit from it than I will)

Left Out

In all my recap of the Laughlin weekend, I skipped one itty bitty part.

Thursday after my dinner & drinks with JJ, on the way out to SG's house, I met him at the little country bar we go to. Thursday is karaoke night and he thought he might get me up there singing. I am not totally opposed to the idea, but I have to be good and toasted to do it. And not just on wine, either. Vodka, tequilla, gin, whiskey.....anything that burns on the way down. Bottom line would be, if I am sober enough to drive (which I was) I am too sober to embarass myself. At least that way.

One of his buddies was there, singing his heart out. He was pretty good, especially considering how drunk he was - lol - and I enjoyed the fun for the short time we were there.

So, no karaoke for me that night, but I'm sure I will do it one of these days......

Laughlin Trip, Part 2

Part 1 here.

So, our investigation of the Riverside led us to the bowling alley - wow! - and the movie theater (6 screens, first run flicks), the arcade, the salon, all the restaurants.... Everything you could possibly want is at your beck and call.

Then I headed back to the room to get girl-i-fied, and SG went to the casino. When he came back he had comps for us to eat at the Prime Rib Room. We had to rush the meal a bit in order to make the concert, but they are very accommodating to their comp holders. The food was fantastic - couldn't have wished for anything more, except time

The concert was wonderful - I had never seen Ricky Van Shelton live before, he is quite a performer and his band was rockin'. So romantic to be sitting in a concert with your boyfriend's arms around you. Even more so when you look around and see so many older couples, arms around each other, probably been together for decades - so sweet. And SG singin' in my ear now and then...mmmmm.

Then we went over to the Safeway in Bullhead City for cokes and chocolate milk, the river was so beautiful with all the lights reflected in it, and then back to the hotel for censored - yummy.

In the morning, he headed back to the casino and I got some reading done - along with a trip to the Cinnabon downstairs

When he came back he had comps for movies, bowling, and LOTS of food. They give you comps to keep you around and keep you gambling - and the more of their money you have, the nicer they are. It is a great trip if you are with someone who is willing to gamble.

So, we had a great lunch at the River View Room (really is a great view) and then saw Sin City (SG strongly disagrees with my review). More casino for him, more relaxing for me.

That nights dinner - The Gourmet Room - phenomenal. Really, really, unbelievably fabulous. It has been a while since I have eaten at a restaurant like that, so nice to go with a special someone that you love. We started with wonderful salads, sooo good, as was the house dressing (creamy sherry). SG had the elk, I had the Steak Au Poivre, both came with deep fried mashed potatoes and fresh, perfect green beans.

Of course, you can't skip dessert at a place like that so we got the chocolate lava cake and the cheesecake with strawberries. I can't remember when I have had a meal that enjoyable; the company, the food, the ambience, the service, the view.

He spent the night at the casino, I had plans to do some more stuff but I crashed early. Three good nights sleep in a row - fabulous. Sunday we went to the Champagne Brunch - this was the only meal/restaurant I requested, and it was the only one I was even slightly disappointed in. The buffet food was below average - but if you stick to the waffle station and the omelet bar you will be very pleased.

At some point in the weekend we saw the classic cars - was it Saturday or Sunday? Definitely cool, and definitely worth the time to walk through.

Did I mention all the meals and entertainment were comps? Even the $$$ dinner at the Gourmet Room. Nice.

Everything was great on the trip home, too - other than SG trying to get me to use a port-a-potty. Uh .... no. Are you kidding me? Not this girl.

It was such a great trip, and I felt so overwhelmed (in a positive way) I almost wished that April Fools Day Post was real.

Laughlin Trip, part 1

So, it's about time to tell you about our wonderful trip to Laughlin. It gets long so I am breaking it up.

The weekend actually started on Thursday night when I took my girlfriend JJ out for her (belated) Birthday dinner and drinks. We started at the Spaghetti Company, for old times sake - we used to go there a lot when we were 'kids'. Split a bottle of wonderful wine and had some yummy pasta. And some general girlie dish.

Then we went down the block to Cheuvront's Wine & Cheese Experience, a wine bar run by one of our local politicians. The waiter suggested the perfect wine for each of us - mine was a Chilean Merlot, just the right amount of spice, mmmmm. It was great to spend some time together, just the two of us, which is harder and harder to do as we get older (and older).

Then home to pack for the big trip. Then to SG's to be ready to go in the morning.

We weren't in too much of a hurry, so it was a relaxing morning getting loaded up to go.

The drive was mostly uneventful, with the exception of SG having to stop more often than he would have liked because of my micro bladder Fortunately, he was patient with me.

One of the stops we made was at Luchia's in Wikieup. I never really knew where Wikieup was - now I do. If you happen to be taking a road trip, this is worth a stop. (I know, Lori, you are going a different way) They have wonderful homemade pies, some really pretty tchotchkes - and critters. There is a koi pond outside that is brimming with fish - throw in some food and it is like a piranha attack. There are also peacocks all around. We were fortunate to see 3 of the males in full display mode. Cool to see the way they, literally, shake their tail feathers. In order to get them up, they vibrate them - and when a female comes near they vibrate the whole showing fan. It is beautiful - and loud. So much fun to see. I have pictures that I will post later - can't resize etc from the office.

We got to the Riverside with plenty of time to spare so, after dropping our stuff in our beautiful room overlooking the river, we did a little investigating. SG has been there several times before, but usually sticks to the casino floor - and there is so much more there!

More later - but now I get to leave work and go see SG

Sin City

Still need to give you the full run down on the Laughlin trip (did I mention it was GREAT?!?) but did want to chime in with my review of the movie we saw up there.

Sin City: Fan Boys fantasy come true. For the rest of us....eh. Kinda boring, way cheesy. SG seemed to like it, so maybe it is a guy thing. I'm sure SG Jr will like it, but he's 13, the perfect comic book graphic novel age. My nephews will probably like it since they are teenagers, male and into comics.

Can't think of anyone else I would recommend it to, so on the Word of Mouth scale it does poorly

Everyone Else is Doing it

Well, it seems like the thing to do lately in the blogosphere. First Michael & Diane, then FrankJ & SarahK. I think we established a while ago that I am a follower, and the timing just seems right.

Spring is the time for renewal, the time for the triumph of alcohol optimism over experience. The time to embrace the possibilities.

The time for a trip to Laughlin, NV with SG.

I found out what else there is to do there besides gamble - or maybe it's just a different kind of gambling. So, I guess that makes me Mrs SG now - back after a short honeymoon.

April Fools!

March 31, 2005

Ahhh!

The Sears guy showed up yesterday morning (early!) to look at my water heater and took less than 20 seconds to conclude that "we need to order you a new tank" - duh! And it cost me $55 to get that He was actually very friendly and professional and nearly restored my faith in Sears to provide reasonable customer service.

He got it ordered and about an hour later they called to let me know it was available for pick up - Yay!!!

I called SG in the afternoon to let him know, and before I even left work he had gone by my house to get the paperwork he needed and picked up the heater. By the time I got home he was well into the project. Just a bit later, and with a minimum amount of frustration on his part it seemed (despite some challenges presented by location and the size of the new tank), the tank was filling and heating.

I took SG for a sushi dinner last night (OK, sushi for him, teriyaki chicken for me) as a start on thanking him. It works out as a bonus for me, though, 'cause I love going out with him

This morning I took a long, very hot, very wonderful shower. In my own shower. I have been fortunate to be able to shower elsewhere this week, including the office. There is just something to be said for your own set up, especially for a girl.

Ooops

Can't say anything else about it.

Suffice it to say, I screwed up and allowed a major misunderstanding to happen this morning. So, SG is pretty upset with me.

Oh, and I broke a tooth last night so I need a root canal - but they can't get me in till Monday. I am on the 4 day ow-my-tooth-hurts-and-I-can't-chew diet...or maybe the all-I-can-eat-is-ice-cream diet. We'll see.

Life sucks right now.

UPDATE: my favorite indulgence, ice cream-wise, is Haagen Dazs Vanilla Swiss Almond. Unfortunately I can't deal with the nuts in my current condition. I guess I can find another flavor to tide me over.....
