Looking Up

I posted about this new Will Smith movie before. He was on Oprah discussing the movie, and they had Chris Garnder and his son, as well.

Oprah asked the son if he remembered being homeless and he said no. He said he remembered moving around a lot, and then he said the killer quote

I just knew that every time I looked up, he was there
Imagine what kind of adults we would have if every child could say that.

Commitment

OK, I admit it - I love chick flicks. I love ballroom dance. I love chick flicks about ballroom dance.

Dance With Me ~
Strictly Ballroom ~
All of 'em.....

So I finally rented Shall We Dance, despite the fact that it has Susan Saradon, Richard Gere & Jennifer Lopez. Haven't made it through the whole movie, yet, but did get to this very chick flicky quote.

We need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet... I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'.
Chick flicky, yes, but true I think. And not just in a marriage, in relationships in general.

UPDATE: I love a sappy, happy ending.

Let It Rain

The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greener where it is watered.
~ Robert Fulghum
So true is so many instances where people are inclined to go off looking for greener pastures. You think you need to go searching for something outside your own backyard, when all you need to do is pay a bit of attention to the seed you have already sown.

Oprah Quote

Oprah just said that she had heard an artist say:

"You can tell who a man is by the woman who is with him."
Sounds sweet...but do you think it is true? I know I have made assumptions based on a persons date, but maybe that just means I am shallow...or a snob.

She was saying it to Tom Cruise. What does it say about him that he is constantly trading down to ever more mousey women. Or, as Lori pointed out, less successful women.

UPDATE: The more I see him on the show, the more I dislike him. I think if I spent any time near him I would have ta' smack him upside the head. What a weeney.

From a Rock Hudson movie, Come September, that is on right now.

The bedroom is like a wedding gown. It's bad luck to let a fellow see you in it before the wedding day.

I hope you will make good use of it."

Lyrics

And the last time I had the sense to notice
You were right here being kind
But if I think that you are with me
Then I know that you can always change your mind
From Another Long One, Shawn Colvin

apropos of nothing, BTW, but I am in a clever lyric mood today. Just another lyric Monday....

Well Said

From the Federalist:

"The War on Terror will not be won until America is united. And as long as Democrats target the Bush administration -- not the terrorists -- as the enemy, we are in trouble."
--Oliver North

UPDATE:
and

"I can understand the point of being Michael Moore:
There's a lot of money in it. What's harder to figure out is the
point of being a devoted follower of Michael Moore."
--Mark Steyn

and

"Stop listening to celebrities. They do what they do for money -- that's all. I don't even know why you're listening to me. I've done commercials for both Coke and Pepsi. Truth is, I can't even taste the difference, but Pepsi paid me last, so there it is."
