I had to do some running around after lunch today, including several banks. Mostly uneventful, even at Bank of America (which is a nice change)
Then the stop at Chase. I noticed the line at the merchant window growing, until one of the other tellers finally told the customers that “she went to lunch, we’ll have to help you over here“. Then I see a customer who is waiting at one of the other windows after his teller goes to the back…and waiting…and waiting. Finally the teller comes back and says, “She stepped out to buy lunch, sorry” The customer took back his cash and left.
Finally, while I was at the counter and a customer stepped to the window next to mine, I found out why her lunch was causing problems. He asked to get rolls of quarters and was told, “Veronica is at lunch. She is the only one with keys”
When I laughed, the teller said, “Well, they are very careful with the keys, they don’t let just anyone have them” Fine – but if you only have ONE person with keys to things your customers need, perhaps that person ought to eat lunch in the building. Just a thought.
