(Moved this up to keep it from being lost in the weekends posts)
Well, our recent gathering of bloggers was one of the most political we've ever had. Who'd have thunk it, this close to the election? ;-)
Kevin suggested in the comments below that we plan a get-together for Nov 4th, where we can all monitor the election results together. Sounds good to me. John mention that WiFi would be a good idea for such a gathering, so...
Looking for a location that would feature, ideally; a casual atmosphere, a nice selection of food and drinks, room to be comfortable, and WiFi for all us geeks.
Any suggestions?
Perhaps we could do a trial run or two during some of the debates?
UPDATE: For the debates, we could try Paradise Bakery, though I don't think they have adult beverages. They aren't open late enough for election results (unless it is a blow out early) but, they should be good for a debate watching get-together. Yeah, forgot about that whole needing a TV thing. Don't know for sure, but I am guessing Paradise Bakery doesn't have one...
Haven't had a chance to put any thought into it yet, but I shall do so this week.
Posted by: John McJunkin at September 22, 2008 01:36 PMHere is a zany idea but what about considering one of us hosting at their home? We could do a pot luck where everyone brings something for eats and treats and even bring beverages. Now that I think about it, I wouldn't mind hosting. I have more room in my living room now with my new sectional sofa! It doesn't have to be my place but I thought I would throw the idea out there.

Posted by: John McJunkin at September 23, 2008 08:34 AMI had previously thought of having it at a home, but didn't know if anyone would be willing.
Then the idea of WiFi came up....
If you'd be willing to host, Lori, that would be cool. I could certainly vouch for your awesome hosting skills. A bit of a drive for some, but right off the 101, so easy to reach.
I also thought of maybe getting a hotel room. Most now offer WiFi, we could bring our own food & drinks, and if someone needed to sleep it off, they could.
Posted by: Vox at September 23, 2008 10:03 AMI like the hotel idea (and the potluck, too). Most hotel bars have monstrous TV's, don't they?
As it was my idea/fault, (if Lori's ok with this), I'll check with The Office Of Planning And Budget (aka Mrs. ExUrbanKevin) about hosting.
Stay tuned to this channel for further updates.
Posted by: ExUrbanKevin at September 23, 2008 11:12 AMLemme toss a couple of spanners in the works . . .
Deemo's American Grill (24th & Camelback)
Boulders on Broadway (formerly the Tempe Old Chicago)
Rosie McCaffrey's (E of 7th St. & Camelback)
O'Connor's (Dunlap & I-17)
Seamus McCaffrey's (Downtown)
. . . all have WiFi (and I think the YardHouse at Desert Ridge does as well.)
Just offering some more options . . .

I spent many a night under the tables there...
Good times, good times.
Posted by: ExUrbanKevin at September 23, 2008 01:36 PMI'm kind of tired of the bars and restaurants to be honest but that's just me.
I like the idea of hosting it (or someone else) at home. Just seems more cozy for us conservatives to be all together for what could be a long night. This way we can hear everything on the TV better, hear each other better as we chat and mingle and have food and cocktails that we all bring. If people want to do up to the min. blogging, you are free to take turns using my computer (or whoever hosts) to access the blogs, etc. I have a nice office and desk. And I'll make "Maverick Meatballs" too!
Anyway, it's just my opinion but I'm cool with whatever we decide. Just tired of the restaurant/bar thang and figured it would be a more intimate and fun setting for us.
