Meet Your Match

There's a new game in town, apparently, looking to grab it's share of the online dating market. All of the Chemistry.com ads mention what is wrong with eHarmony.com. For the most part, just the standard "we are better" stuff.

Tonight, however, they had a guy getting "a Dear John letter from eHarmony". The voice over says, "we don't know why eHarmony has rejected more than a million people" and something along the lines of "you're welcome here".

It seems, if you are looking to score with the rejects, Chemistry.com is your dating site of choice.

I had a conversation this week with a female friend who has been using match.com. She affirmed for me that match.com is for suckers (if you're a guy). This friend is very cute, bright, fun, and professionally accomplished. She's the kind of girl that most guys are after if they are interested in a relationship (as opposed to just sex). She told me that she routinely gets 300 to 400 emails per week from guys on match.com.

To put that in context, imagine being one of, say, 50 guys at a bar who approaches the same girl in one evening. Even if she's there to meet guys, if you're one of 50, your odds aren't so good.

As this friend put it, "I think match.com is great for girls. But I wouldn't want to be a guy on there."
