Interesting Sales Tactic

I stopped at the Dollar Store to pick up a few things on my way to work this morning. When she told me the total it seemed a smidge high, but I wasn't sure. I looked at my receipt right away and saw that she had charged me twice for one item, no big deal really - right?

So she says, "Yeah, I did, but we don't give refunds so if you just want to pick something else out...."

To which I said, "Excuse me?!?! You just overcharged me and you are telling me you won't fix it? Are you kidding me?" Seriously, her response totally threw me.

She started stammering and trying to defend it when the manager saw me and asked what had happened. Then she gave me my money back. However, rather than void the transaction and re-ring it, saving time, trouble and paperwork, she did a refund (which they don't do, remember) and required me to fill out a form.

Really, are you kidding me? Nice way to wrack up sales, though. I can just hear the meeting, "OK, people, we are a bit behind in our numbers. Everybody just charge an extra item to a customer each day. If they complain tell them to pick something out because we won't give them a refund"
