TUNES - 36

Sorry, I have been remiss in updating the RadioBlog, in a bit of a funk you know.

It is ready to go now, and in honor of our cool new local station, STAR 97.5, I am in a crooner mood. I have just two of Michael Buble's albums, It's Time and Totally Buble. He has a great voice but a producer with no sense of cool. There are certainly some gems to be found:

I have limited exposure to Michael Buble, but I have the same reaction to him; Harry Connick, Jr.; and the Coen brothers: trying too hard to create an image/aura, rather than just doing good work and letting it speak for itself.

I don't think it is him, I think it is his producer - I believe he is with David Foster, one of the least hip guys in the biz. He manages to find some amazing talents, then suck the life out of them in the studio.

I would love to hear Michael Buble and Renee Olstead produced by someone like Quincy Jones. He is responsible for so many of Sinatra's ultra cool arrangments in the Rat Pack era - his vision and their pipes could be magic.

Is he the kid in the Starbucks commercial?

I don't know about the Starbucks commercial, haven't see/heard it. He certainly fits their "vibe" so I wouldn't doubt it.
