Which Laser To Choose

If I get a bonus this year (and so far it looks like I will) I want to put part of it towards a laser treatment. The question is, which one?

Lasik: I am near sighted, but not dangerously so. I rarely wear my glasses because I don't often need to see far away and they make it difficult to see up close. In fact, I end up with a headache and blurred vision when I take them off. It would be nice to be able to make out road signs earlier, and recognizing my friends when I walk into a restaurant would be stellar.

Hair Removal: I hate shaving. I mean, I really hate shaving. How great would it be to remove a couple of areas from my daily razor routine!?! The process takes several visits and can be a bit uncomfortable - but once it is complete, woo hoo! However, it seems like a silly way to spend my money considering all the other possibilities. Seriously, restored vision vs. no more razor burn....

Either one would be great. What would you do? I am mostly asking the ladies this one, but you guys can feel free to chime in if you want

I thought about the hair removal myself. That's the one I would do. Wearing contacts and/or glasses is less of a hassle than shaving, waxing and tweezing in my book.

I have heard that the one for your eyes does not "cure" bad vision and your vision can still deteriorate even after surgery. One of my friends got it done and not too long after, he had to still wear glasses sometimes. But I'm no expert and could be totally misinformed.

Glasses are very sexy, in my estimation.

I vote for keeping the glasses. If you must, get some contacts so you have a choice of looks.

And allow me to add to your list of paranoias. What about spider veins?

Hair removal... would depend where. That's all I'm sayin'. ;)

The thing is, I don't actually wear the glasses but once every 6 weeks or so. I have the contacts (got them for skydiving, it's good to have long range vision when you are looking for your landing zone) but rarely wear them. It just seems so much more practical of a surgery.

As opposed to not having to shave my underarms and bikini line ever again - frivolous but such a timesaver....right?

Yeah, I hate to sound vain, but I'd choose the hair removal treatment. Just think of how much time & money you'd be saving!

I think the lasik would be a great choice.Mary sure has enjoyed hers.

LASIK, definitely. I had it 4 1/2 years ago. I'd rather shave every day than fumble around for my glasses every morning and not be able to see my alarm clock at night.

I found your blog through the new google blogsearch. Lasik is a bit controversial. Do some serious research first (I would give a link, but I don't want to come across as a spammer.) You say that your glasses "make it difficult to see up close". My understanding is that lasik would do the same thing *permanently*. Since your vision is not that bad and you don't wear glasses often, it may be possible to improve your vision naturally. Ask your eye doctor about the possibility of pseudomyopia. And if you are interested, google "natural vision improvement", "vision recovery", "Bates method", and "myopia prevention".
