I am a fringe member of a Conservative group here in Phoenix. I don't attend many of their events because, frankly, they seem a bit extreme and ineffective.
The woman who handles the mailing list does so quite poorly. She sends so much crap, often I get 10-15 things a day and most of it junk, that I end up deleting most of it without even reading it. Last week she sent a version of the Denzel Washington/Brooke Army Medical Center story. It had bits of truth but was not entirely true, as researched by Snopes. I sent her a reply that simply said, "Yes, it is a great story but you should be careful about checking things before you forward them - that is how so much misinformation gets circulated into the general populous"
I found her reply when I got back from my trip -
I always appreciate the feedback and ALWAYS leave it up to those I forward to to check on things themselves as I do not have the time to check on everything!!!Huh?!?!
You are sending massive amounts of information to a list that is collected and sanctioned by a political group - and you don't have time to check if it is true?!?!?! Give me a break.
Is this earth shattering misinformation? No.
Is my point the same anyway? Yes.
I always give people a pass the first time, because they may not know any better - but to intentionally send out emails without bothering to authenticate the story, just because you like what it says, is the height of irresponsibility for someone in that position.

Yeah, but I signed up so I could get updates on meetings, activities & events. Why can't the official list be used for that?
