Membership

I tried to comment on a blog yesterday. Tried - not succeeded.

First, they had "captcha" or some such thing installed. I find that only mildly annoying, and I certainly understand the frustration that leads to it's use. At least on systems like that, where you are asked to enter an extra field of text, the word(s) are right there for you.

So, I fill in my name, my email, my URL, my amazingly insightful comment, and the secret code word - and I hit enter...only to be told I can't comment because I am not a 'member' Hmph!

So, besides all the information I have already given on the comment form, you want something else before you will let me play? Uh, no - but thanks.

Rachel set up a membership option on her blog a while back, but she did it right ~ she didn't exclude those who didn't register. What she did do was give extra goodies to those who did. So she gets lots of comments - from members and non-members.

But, maybe I'm just too sensitive.

I understand it - spam is a pain - but worries about privacy keep me from participating on those that require a typepad membership. That, and it's just too much of a pain to jump through all the hoops.
