Doctors and Customer Service

I had a follow up appointment with my doctor today, just to clear me after my shoulder trouble. Since it was also my day for physical therapy and they are in the same building, I tried to schedule accordingly.

My doctor's appointment was at 10:30 - since it was just a follow up it should have been about 5-10 minutes. So, I scheduled physical therapy for 11:15 - plenty of time, right? Wrong.

By 11:00, when the assistant hadn't come to get me yet, I went to the front desk and asked, "Any idea how much longer for my 10:30 appointment?" The girls sort of chuckled embarrassedly and called back to ask, the medical assistant said he'd come get me right away. Which he did - and left me in the exam room where I waited another 30 minutes. Yep, an hour late to see me!

Now, I love this doctor - really love him. He is the best doctor I have ever had; great bedside manner, great compassion, really listens and explains. Unfortunately, he moved his practice into a new office and ever since the "office" part of the visits have sucked. Always late. His new assistant pretty much sucks (I miss the old one; funny, friendly, efficient). I don't want to give up such a great doctor, but I am fed up with the crap - I think I will write him a note.

So, I finally get to physical therapy half an hour late. This is an office that believes in customer service. They were very understanding and worked to get me in, but they had other patients that they weren't going to inconvenience just for me (which I agree with). So, they took care of me in the bits of time they had while treating other people. It should have been a 30 minute appointment and ended up taking over an hour - but it was worth it and I don't blame them at all for the extra time.

The good news is - I graduated! No more therapy as long as I don't screw it up again. As much as I enjoyed it, I am glad to be done with the hassle and expense.
