February 9th

Significant Events

  • in 1540 the first horse-racing meeting was held in Britain at Chester
  • in 1649 the funeral of British KING CHARLES I took place. He was buried at Windsor, England
  • in 1893 the world's first strip-tease took place, performed by MONA,
an artist's model at the Four Arts Ball at the MOULIN ROUGE, Paris,
France. Coincidentally, on this date in 1914, Gypsy Rose Lee was born and went on to become (perhaps) the most famous stripper ever.
  • in 1923 Russian state airline AEROFLOT was formed.
  • in 1942 Daylight-saving "War Time" went into effect in the United States, with clocks turned one hour forward.
  • in 1949 American actor ROBERT MITCHUM was jailed in Los Angeles, California, for two months for smoking marijuana
  • in 1964 THE BEATLES made their first appearance on American TV's THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW
  • in 1971 The Apollo 14 spacecraft returned to Earth after man's third landing on the moon.
  • in 1972 Britain and East Germany established diplomatic relations
  • in 1981 GENERAL WOJCIECH JARUZELSKI took over as Poland's Prime Minister to try and squash the Solidarity movement
  • in 1997 THE SIMPSONS became the longest running animated prime-time TV series in America, beating the record held by THE FLINTSTONES
  • in 1998 DANBERT NOBACON, a member of British anarchist pop group
CHUMBAWAMBA tipped a bucket of icy water over the head of British
Deputy Prime Minister JOHN PRESCOTT at the BRIT AWARDS music ceremony in London
  • in 19XX the most beautiful woman (inside and out) that I have had the pleasure to know, my mother, was born. She still looks like she is barely into her forties, an impossibility considering my age and the fact that I am the youngest of 6. Yes, that's right, she had 6 kids and managed to not only maintain her sanity, but also her youthful looks and charm. When I hear women complain that as they get older they are turning into their mothers, all I can think is "I should be so lucky" Beautiful, kind, generous, sweet, funny.... She has it all. I love you , Mom! Happy Birthday!

She still looks just like this, only with updated clothes ;-) I'm a little taller and I don't get carried around by my sister. TCHOTP is the youngest of the boys, this sister is the cutie between he and I.
